Filmoteca Canaria & CineAsia, in collaboration with the ‘Centro Cultural Coreano’ (Korean Cultural Centre) in Madrid, celebrates 100 years of Korean cinema with a cycle that allows the spectator to get acquainted with unknown films, pertinent to the so-called ‘Reino ermitaño de Corea’ (Recluse Kingdom of Korea).

Oasis

Synopsis:

Jong-Du is released from prison after serving three years for a hit-and-run car accident. A social misfit and slightly mentally retarded, his family regards him as a burden. He decides to visit the victim’s family and there he meets Han Gong-ju, the victim’s young daughter, who is wheel-bound with cerebral palsy and semi-abandoned by her family. These two outcasts form a special relationship, finding their own ‘oasis’ in which two “normal” people live. But both their respective families as well as society itself present all sorts of obstacles. The film received a special award for best director and the best actress prize for Moon So-ri at the Venice Film Festival 2002.
