Filmoteca Canaria dedicates the months of April & May to a film cycle featuring the US film director John Cassavetes (1929-1989), master of live filming ‘off the grid’, films that said something, and still do, about what “we don’t know” in his own words.

The films that will be shown during this cycle which are in the original version with Spanish subtitles, correspond to his early years of production, from 1959 till 1977, and are considered today as cult films, that attest to a personal process of going against the flow and always committed.

Synopsis: Benny, Lelia & Hugh are three black siblings who share an apartment in New York. Lelia goes out with David, an intellectual New Yorker, but she meets Tony at a party and the two make love. When Tony finds out that Lelia is of mixed-race he can’t help his feelings of racial prejudice, for which Hugh stops him seeing his sister again.
