In october 1595, twentyseven ships captained by Sir Francis Drake & John Hawkins appeared off the coast of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in an attempt to assault the main island institutions, make off with the riches and inflict harm on the population. They sought to undermine Spain’s maritime dominance under Felipe II, which was so damaging to the expansion of the rising British Empire. This assault was repelled by an organized population that prevented their landing.

This happening is yet again the theme of the new Family Vist, titled “Vienen los piratas. El ataque de sir Francis Drake”, hosted at the museum ‘El Museo Canario’ next Sunday 9 October at 12:00 hours.

It aims to show this event in a fun & entertaining way to boys & girls, but without losing its historic rigor & intensity. It will be carried out in the form of a game, with adapted narration and the use of didactic resources created specifically for this activity.
