CYCLE: MÁRTA MÉSZÁROS

In the months of April & May ‘Filmoteca Canaria’ dedicates a cycle to the Hungarian film-maker Márta Mészáros (Budapest, 1931), whose films have recently been restored by the Hungarian National Film Institute so that the current viewer can enjoy in all its splendour the characters that feature in the work of this director who in her day was rated by the prestigious magazine Film Comment as “an arsenal of film resources”.

“LA MUCHACHA” (The Girl)(1968)

Synopsis 

The girl works in a textile factory. The girl, who grew up in an orphanage, desperately seeks out her parents. The girl finds her mother in a small village who asks her to keep her identity hidden from her new family. The girl feels terribly alone, begins short-term relationships with men that do not satisfy her. The girl decides to help a man who seems to know something about her father’s death. But is he really telling the truth?

Entrance tickets for ‘Filmoteca Canaria’ are put on sale at the Theatre website and at the Box-Office with discounts for the unemployed & students.
