CYCLE: MÁRTA MÉSZÁROS

In the months of April & May ‘Filmoteca Canaria’ dedicates a cycle to the Hungarian film-maker Márta Mészáros (Budapest, 1931), whose films have recently been restored by the Hungarian National Film Institute so that the current viewer can enjoy in all its splendour the characters that feature in the work of this director who in her day was rated by the prestigious magazine Film Comment as “an arsenal of film resources”.

“ADOPCIÓN” (ADOPTION)(1975)

Synopsis

Kata, a widow, is approaching middle-age without any children of her own. Her long-standing boyfriend, who is married, does not wish to have any with her. Fortuitously a young runaway from an orphanage enters her life by asking her if she could take refuge in her home. Initially reluctant, Kata welcomes her and begins to get attached to her. She helps her leave the institution and marry the young man she loves. Whatsmore, the relationship between the two women awakens in Kata the determination to change what she doesn’t like about her situation in life…

Entrance tickets for ‘Filmoteca Canaria’ are put on sale at the Theatre website and at the Box-Office with discounts for the unemployed & students.
