The plot takes place in Venice in the XVII century. Enzo Grimaldo, a banished Genoese  nobleman lives disguised as sailor.  He is the street singer La Giocanda’s lover but he loves Laura, wife of Alvise Badoero, one of the leaders of the Inquisition.
