CYCLE MÁRTA MÉSZÁROS

In the months of April & May ‘Filmoteca Canaria’ dedicates a cycle to the Hungarian film-maker Márta Mészáros (Budapest, 1931), whose films have recently been restored by the Hungarian National Film Institute so that the current viewer can enjoy in all its splendour the characters that feature in the work of this director who in her day was rated by the prestigious magazine Film Comment as “an arsenal of film resources”.

“DIARIO PARA MIS PADRES” (DIARY FOR MY MOTHER & FATHER)(1990)

Synopsis 

October 1956. Juli is unable to return to Hungary from Moscow because the borders arte closed. The Soviets have invaded Budapest and deposed the Prime Minister Imre Nagy. János participates actively in these events. When Juli finally returns, she tries to immortalize everything that is happening. She escapes to Austria with János fearing for their lives, but in the end decide to go back and is brutally executed by hanging.

Entrance tickets for ‘Filmoteca Canaria’ are put on sale at the Theatre website and at the Box-Office with discounts for the unemployed & students.
