Filmoteca Canaria celebrates the 125th anniversary of the birth of John Ford, maker of more than 150 movies and winner of more Oscar awards than any other director, with a cycle featuring a revision of some of his most emblematic films.

La ruta del tabaco (Tobacco Road)

Synopsis: 

The cotton crop has failed in the fields of Augusta, Georgia and the farmers have moved to the city. Jeeter Lester is a poor white farmer, who inherited a very large property which in older times had prospered, but now he is ruined. He refuses to leave his land and keeps hoping to get a loan so he could buy cotton seeds and revive the crop he so yearns for. The economic decline coupled with the moral turpitude is clearly expressed by the small- minded, grotesque & racist attitudes of the characters implicated.
