Filmoteca Canaria dedicates a cycle to the American novelist & scriptwriter James M. Cain (1892-1977), one of the best authors of crime novels. In spite of his long career as a novelist, Cain is better known for his film adaptations of detective books.

RETORNO AL PASADO (OUT OF THE PAST) (1947)

Synopsis: Jeff Bailey (Robert Mitchum), an ex-detective, is the owner of a gas station in a small town where he lives a simple & quiet life. His loves are fishing and a young girl whom he wants to marry. He unexpectedly receives a visit from someone he knew earlier from his past who tells him his boss wants to see him. Bailey then finds himself compelled to tell his girlfriend about his shady past.
