For the months of April & May 2021 ‘Filmoteca Canaria’, in collaboration with the Czech Centre in Madrid, the embassy of the Czech Republic and the Prague City Hall, programmes a cycle of ‘Cine Checo Actual’ (Current Czech Films). The movies that feature in said cycle, made in the last four years, show that behind the label of renegade cinema forged in the ‘60s, there is a cinematography as interesting as it is unknown.

THE GOLDEN BETRAYAL (2018)

Synopsis: In 1938 some young Czech men learn to play basketball from American Mormons in a YMCA camp. When World War II erupts a year later, their coach is arrested & executed and a young lawyer steps in to manage the team. After the war ends the team plays in the European Championship in Geneva and wins. But everything changes with the arrival of Communism. Several players are persecuted and the manager is arrested. In spite of being weakened, the team enters the competition once again and gets to play in the finals in Paris against the USSR. An epic drama that is a blend of history, politics & sport.
