Carmen Laforet established with Benito Pérez Galdós, who died a year before she was born, a friendly relationship, which she commented on at different occasions throughout her life.

It's about a friendship "out of time". This very particular notion of friendship is key to understand the personality of the author, and the meaning of her work.
