Filmoteca Canaria dedicates the months of April & May to a film cycle featuring the US film director John Cassavetes (1929-1989), master of live filming ‘off the grid’, films that said something, and still do, about what “we don’t know” in his own words.

The films that will be shown during this cycle which are in the original version with Spanish subtitles, correspond to his early years of production, from 1959 till 1977, and are considered today as cult films, that attest to a personal process of going against the flow and always committed.

“OPENING NIGHT” (1977)

Synopsis: Myrtle Gordon is a Broadway actress who gets too deep into the skin of her characters, thereby causing personal wear & tear. She is rehearsing a play in which she takes the role of a woman who refuses to admit she's getting old. After witnessing the tragic death of one of her fans, she will have to face the maze into which her personal & professional life have been plunged into.
