The book presented arises from the need to publicize the work of one of the great tools of the Cabildo (Island Council) of Gran Canaria in matters of culture: the ‘Ediciones del Cabildo’ (Cabildo Editions. Since its first publication in book format in 1923, the Cabildo initiates an editorial activity that will fill in the gaps in terms of the recovery and dissemination of the literary heritage of the island. Thanks to archivists and university professors, this cultural undertaking will jell in the middle of the 20th century, when the Atlantic Library, the first literature and research awards begins: Tomás Morales, Pérez Galdós, & Viera y Clavijo, and the first periodical: ‘ ‘Anuario de Estudios Atlánticos’ (Atlantic Studies Annual).
