“Mujeres en la isla: las otras hijas del Mestre” (2022)

Synopsis

Marisa Luisa Padrón, in the star role of the Canarian film “La hija del Mestre” (1928) by Francisco González González, based on the traditional Canarian Zarzuela of the same name as the musician Santiago Tejera Ossavarry, was linked to the socio-cultural life of Gran Canaria for several years until she was permanently secluded in the postwar period. Through unique archival materials, the documentary is also about painters, writers and editors of a magazine that dynamited the narrow space allocated to women on the island.
