 the great tools of the Cabildo (Island Council) of Gran Canaria in matters 
 of culture: the &lsquo;Ediciones del Cabildo&rsquo; (Cabildo Editions. Sinc
 e its first publication in book format in 1923, the Cabildo initiates an ed
 itorial activity that will fill in the gaps in terms of the recovery and di
 ssemination of the literary heritage of the island. Thanks to archivists an
 d university professors, this cultural undertaking will jell in the middle 
 of the 20th century, when the Atlantic Library, the first literature and re
 search awards begins: Tom&aacute;s Morales, P&eacute;rez Gald&oacute;s, &am
 p; Viera y Clavijo, and the first periodical: &lsquo;&nbsp;&lsquo;Anuario d
