 girl, Fátima, the figure who acts as a link to other characters and 
 the village in which they live, Tafraoute Sidi Ali (small oasis) and her su
 rroundings in the desert, near the great expanse of the Erg Chebbi dunes an
 d not that far from Western Sahara, a zone of permanent conflict. &nbs
