´Laboratorio Galdós´ returns in October with their second production, titled El Crimen de la Calle Fuencarral. Written by Fabio Rubiano & directed by Mario Vega, this coproduction with ´unahoramenos´ is based on the chronicles written by Don Benito, related to an incident that stirred up the society of that time.

On 2 July 1988, at number 109, Fuencarral Street in Madrid, the dead body of Lucia Borsino, widow of Vázquez Varela, was found with multiple stab wounds and still ablaze wrapped in rags soaked in petrol. In fact, it was the smell of something burning that alerted the neighbours. In an adjacent room. lying drugged was her maid servant Higinia Balaguer, and her pet bulldog.

And so began the incident that shook up the society of that time, triggered off a parallel trial in the press and also led to a number of very different theories as to what actually happened and who the culprit was. Benito Pérez Galdós became the chronicler of this incident for the newspaper ´La prensa´, of Buenos Aires. It was a controversial & lengthy process, that ended with the last public execution by the despicable garrote in Spain. Don Benito used references to this in his novel ´Realidad y La incógnita´.
