For the month of March, dedicated to women, at the venue - CICCA, the Cinema Association Vértigo organises a cycle, titled "Anita Loos: guionista", writer of some 200 screenscripts and author of, among other novels, “Gentlemen prefer Blondes”, and so paying tribute to another pioneer of North-American cinema.
Getting Mary Married
Synopsis: Young Mary feels like a prisoner in the New York apartments of her step-father John Bussard but everything changes when her heartless guardian dies in an accident. Mary is left a fortune but only if she can fulfill her step-father’s will by remaining unmarried and living with his brother Amos’ family for a year. Of course if Mary refuses or is unable to do so the fortune instead goes to Amos ……..
The New York Hat
Synopsis: The dying Mrs Harding, worried about leaving her daughter in the hands of her miserly husband, entrusts a sum of money to the Preacher to buy her daughter some “fineries” from time to time, and to keep a secret as to the source of the funds. When the minister buys her an expensive hat that caught the girl’s fancy, gossip begins spreading through the village.
