The story of ‘Peribáñez y el Comendador de Ocaña’ is one of the villain who confronts the powerful person, and does not concede before the abuse of power; something unconceivable for the society of that age. A habitual character in dramas of the ‘Golden Age’, featuring one of the most popular genres of that period: a drama of honour, also summarised as a drama “de comendadores”(of Knight Commanders). The rural setting of the headstrong farm worker having to go beyond his social limits to stop the representation of power that, in excess, threatens his most precious virtue: honour.
