The ‘murgas’(satirical singing groups), together with the ‘comparsas’ (dancing troupes), constitute a good part of the essence of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival. Their songs fine-tune criticism regarding the various social & political events that occurred during the whole year, thus putting an ironic & satirical tone to the present-day situation.
